The Dawnay Estates offers the opportunity to fish almost every kind of
inland water fish in an idyllic setting. Within the deep sided wooded valleys of
the North York Moors , near Danby, and the more open countryside of the Vale of
Pickering, near Wykeham; can be found salmon, sea trout, trout (game and still water)
and coarse fishing.
The River Esk, which flows east to meet the sea at Whitby, was for many years Yorkshire’s
only salmon river on which there was a reasonable catch over its entire length of
over 100 fish. Salmon fishing can be taken on the upper reaches at Danby.
The River Esk is also an excellent sea trout river with good catches particularly
in September and October. Fishing is permitted by fly or spinner.
