Mineral extraction is aggregates and commenced in 1980, Hanson Aggregates (UK) are
the mineral operators and occupy the land on a 20 year lease. Output is approximately
250 tonnes of gravel per annum.
The quarries are “wet” sites and the minerals are
extracted by a drag line with pumping to reduce water levels by approximately 1.5
metres.
Restoration is the responsibility of the mineral operator who have maintained
a very high level of landscaping to create six separate lakes which form the basis
of Wykeham Lakes (fishery) and Watersports (sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and long
distance swimming).
